Dixon & Smith Baptismal Bowl

James Dixon was a prominent pewterer from Sheffield in the early 1800s. His company was in existence well into the 1900s. A great deal of his output was for the American trade and was copied by American pewterers of the early 19th century. The marking identifies the period of construction. This baptismal carries a mark used between 1811-1822. It has beautiful gadrooning around the upper lip. The condition of the pewter and mark is excellent.
